Pathfinders

About the Programme

The Pathfinders Wellbeing Programme is a free-of-charge initiative developed by Skylight for young women aged 13 to 16. The programme integrates an introduction to psychoeducation (learning), kōrero (discussion and reflections), and artwork, exploring concepts related to identity: Whakapapa (Genealogy - Ancestry), Whānau (Family), and Me (Self).

Funded by the Ministry of Youth Development, the programme’s goal is to enhance well-being, boost resilience, and empower young women to lead with courage, strength, and confidence, setting a foundation for a brilliant future of opportunities.

The programme is delivered in two sessions (Wednesday and Thursday) and aims to create a safe, welcoming, and positive environment accommodating groups of up to 25.

Pathfinders can be delivered for smaller groups (ideally no more than 10 people) in our office if required. If you are interested in us bringing the programme to your school, sports club, or community group we will be delighted,

In the first year, Pathfinders reached over 450 young ladies in Wellington schools and from January 2024 Skylight successfully delivered the first Holiday Programme.

Here is some of the participant's feedback:

“I have learnt to be proud of my identity and where I come from”.
“I've learnt new skills and a better understanding of myself as a person”.
“I learnt what makes me ‘ME’”.
“I‘ve learnt to How to always ask for help and communicate”.
“I loved making posters that describe us and our heritage”.
